Michael Wiebach is a Mexican-German visual artist who is best known for his simultaneous combination of painting, installation art and short films. Using representational objects such as old toys, industrial junk and other obsolete gadgets, he creates elaborate installations and art objects. At the same time, these objects are often the themes rendered on many of his oil canvases. Through his work, Michael Wiebach practices a certain form of modern archeology, in which technology is seen through the lens of its inevitable destiny as waste.
He has exhibited his work in numerous private spaces in US, Mexico and Europe. Museum and public exhibitions include: A donde nos Lleva el Tren, Sala de Arte Publico Siqueiros, Mexico City (2003), El Avión se Va, Centro Cultural San Angel, Mexico City (2005), Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Museum of Art, Anchorage AK, USA (2005) Por el Retrovisor Centro de Exposiciónes AICM, Mexico City International Airport (2009). His short film “Dia De Pinta” was given an honorable mention award at the Guanajuato International Film Festival GIFF (2010) and was selected as one of the best Mexican short films of 2010, participating in the Short Film Corner at Cannes Film Festival in 2011.
